Are you in Donostia and interested in photography, contemporary art or different cultural plans? Then there is an exhibition worth adding to your agenda: Urban Morphologies, by Basque photographer Jon Gorospe.
The exhibition offers a very contemporary view of the city, architecture and the way urban spaces influence how we live. A city is not only a collection of buildings, streets and squares, but also a place that guides us, conditions us, protects us, exposes us and, at times, even excludes us.

Urban Morphologies by Jon Gorospe
Urban Morphologies is an exhibition by photographer Jon Gorospe, curated by Alejandro Castellote, which explores the relationship between architecture and people.
Through photography, video and light installation, the exhibition reflects on how urban design affects our everyday lives and the way we inhabit cities.
Series featured in the exhibition
- Noraezean [Drifting]: reflects on how built spaces increasingly resemble one another and how landscapes lose part of their identity when transformed for urban, industrial or aesthetic purposes.
- Polished Cities: focuses on the smooth, shiny and seemingly perfect surfaces of contemporary architecture.
- The Spot [The Advert]: analyses the presence of advertising in public spaces, especially LED screens and other visual formats found on the streets.
- Peripatetic Studies: The Hostile: addresses so-called hostile architecture and the urban elements that determine who can stay, rest or inhabit certain spaces.
- Peripatetic Studies: Bivouac: focuses on the improvised spaces that some people build within the city as a form of adaptation and resistance.
- The Grid: observes the everyday movements of people in different cities through video, sound and photography.
- Skyline: approaches buildings through fragments, proposing incomplete images that the viewer mentally completes.
Activities around the exhibition
If you are interested in this exhibition, you can also enjoy several activities designed to explore Jon Gorospe’s work in greater depth and the questions it raises about the city.
- Guided tours: every Sunday, at 17:30 in Basque and at 18:30 in Spanish.
- Presentation of the Urban Morphologies photobook: with Jon Gorospe and Juanjo Justicia, on Friday 12 June at 18:30.
- Photography workshop Deriva(s) and urban photography practices: on the weekend of 13 and 14 June.
Urban Morphologies is an ideal exhibition for those who enjoy contemporary photography, as well as for anyone curious about architecture, cities and the way we inhabit spaces.
It is an exhibition that goes beyond the visual, inviting visitors to think, to walk with a different gaze and to ask what the city says about us.
If you are in Donostia and looking for a different cultural plan, visiting Kutxa Fundazioa is a great idea. And since you are at Tabakalera, take the opportunity to discover other exhibitions, activities and cultural proposals nearby.
